After decades of unfair custody, divorce and probate cases that simply didn't add up, a grassroots effort began, focusing on cleaning up family courts and judicial corruption in Santa Clara County.
In 1997 parents tried to bring these issues forward and Judge Komar, the county's supervising judge at the time, investigated and tried to help. Judge Komar launched an investigation and issued guidelines. Fifteen years later , those guidelines are a distance memory and Santa Clara County has turned its back on immigrants, the poor, the elderly and children; the voiceless. The absence of the internet left Komar's efforts flat and provided for years more of abuse, from the same judges and lawyers who imposed it in the late '90s. But with the internet and adoption of social media a new effort formed. For the past two years parents, grandparents and county citizens have written letters, lodges complaints, field law suits, observed hours of family court hearings and reviewed thousands of court records and files. The group has found a paper and money trail that leads right to the family court bench . Combined efforts with the Center for Investigative Reporting are underway and groups from Contra Costa, Sacramento, Marin and San Diego are joining in to form the largest family court watchdog group in the country, to bring family court corruption to an end.
